Hi, I'm Imogen

I'm studying for a T-Level in Digital Production, Design and Development at Bath College, UK.I'm looking to set up a work placement at a tech company in Bath, Bristol or London where I can take my first steps as a new software engineer.

What's a T-Level?

It's a new type of course for students aged 16-18 and is equivalent to three A levels. The big difference is that it's a course designed with industry in mind.80% time in the classroom learning about tech, getting good at Python.20% time on a work placement learning how things really get done.

About me

I enjoy playing computer games, especially overwatch, resident evil and red dead redemption.I love listening to music and discovering new bands to explore. I particularly enjoy
shoegaze, underground hip hop, nu gaze.
In the future I would love to travel to Tokyo, San Francisco and Canada.I chose to study this course because I want to learn more about the tech industry and I am really interested in getting a job in game design, web design or AI. After this course I would like to go to university and study AI or game development.I'm based in Frome, Somerset and have links to London.

Education

The T-Level isn't my first unusual qualification. My school year was hit particularly hard by Covid and I was home-schooling. Instead of doing GCSEs I studied for a Certificate in Integrated Education with the Crossfields Institute. It's equivalent to 8 GCSEs and I was awarded a distinction in every area of the curriculum and a distinction over all.For my final project I made an AI tool using Langchain, Pinecone and Open AI to make an AI version of the author Jaron Lanier.I also self-studied for my Maths and English GCSEs (it's an entry requirement for the T-Level) and got B equivalent for both.Over the last year I've self-learned Python and completed the adult Codecademy Python 3 course.

A placement with you?

I'm looking for a tech business to host me as a newbie into the workplace. In total over two years I need to complete 45 days of unpaid work experience as part of the course, which most likely would be in week-long periods and could be split between two employers.I'm learning Python as part of the course, and I am already at beginner level. I'd be keen to learn more about applied AI, try doing some web development, or get into solving problems with code. The placement needs to be in a physical office rather than being remote.Bath College provides support to me and there is no cost to you as the employer.Companies that offer placements with Bath say that it's a great way to support existing junior/mid-level employees to get some management experience without having to employ a full-time junior. What would I do on a placement? Some ideas I've had – I could prototype some internal AI tools for you using Streamlit, do some data analysis in Python, build simple websites like this one, or help with QA on your mobile app. I'm open to whatever makes sense for you.If you'd consider offering me a placement, please get in touch!
